Welcome to the first of, I hope many, blogs documenting my progress, thoughts and work through the creation of my online multimedia project - Surrogacy Unveiled: The Birth of a New Era.
Surrogacy is a topic that is very personal to me. I was born via surrogacy 22 years ago now, so I was eager to use this project as a chance to learn more about the steps taken that led to me being here today. I knew this was an opportunity for me to meet my surrogate.
My online feature will look at the new law reforms published in March earlier this year and how the potential new laws will improve the efficiency of surrogacy in the UK. I aim to combine the personal stories of surrogates themselves, intended parents, people born via surrogacy and non- profit surrogacy organisations and look at how changing the current outdated laws make a difference.
I was quick to make progress for this project, having organised three interviews within the first couple of weeks since deciding my topic of surrogacy. Social media was vital for the initial steps taken to finding interviews. Instagram was extremely useful in discovering surrogates who were open in sharing their journey. I will document the three individuals who were kind enough to help me for my project. I knew that I was in a good place before my pitch next week.
