My second interview was with Alan White who is the chair on the board at Surrogacy UK. For my project I wanted to talk to someone who was part of one of the few surrogacy organisations in the UK.
I reached out to Alan on Instagram after seeing the work he was doing on the Surrogacy UK Instagram page and his own personal account. Since the law reforms were published earlier this year, Alan has been doing a lot of work pushing to change the current surrogacy laws.
Alan was extremely helpful in breaking down the law reforms and why the proposed changes are important for surrogacy in the UK.
Hearing from someone that’s part of a surrogacy organisation was fascinating and to learn the ins and outs about how the process really starts was great. It was also interesting understanding his own personal experiences with surrogacy and how it's got him to where he is today.
“It's changed my life because I've had a baby, but it's also changed my life because I've got involved in this kind of quite unusual thing called surrogacy that not many people know very much about.
“It's a lovely thing to do for people. It's a lovely community. It is also political and it's controversial, and there are lots of people who don't like it, but it's just really been amazing.” Alan told me.
